World Whisky Day
World Whisky Day
World Whisky Day at the Primus Hotel Sydney
The water of life, whisky is one the rare drinks that transcends trends and is the test of a truly distinguished palate.
Saturday, May 20, marks a special day for liquor aficionados as annual World Whisky Day lets lovers of the dram raise a toast to the iconic drink.
Founded by Blair Bowman, a young Scotsman with a deep love for his national drink, World Whisky Day is a chance for people to get a taste for whisky. From novices to experts, people around the world will gather at organised venues and events to appreciate the rich flavours hidden in whisky’s depths.
The Primus Hotel has one of the biggest collections of whiskies (both whisky and whiskey, and there is a difference) to choose from.
From American drops such as Bookers and Gentleman Jack, Knob Creek rye whiskey to the traditional choices Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich and Ardbeg – there is a flavour and an age to match any preference.
But part of the joy of World Whisky Day is the chance to see whisky in action. Whisky’s dark flavours lend themselves to cocktails far easier than purists would have you believe, and in many cases can improve an old favourite.
At the Primus Hotel Sydney, we’ve got three whisk(e)y based cocktails to slate your thirst: an Irish Spring, comprised of house aged whiskey, elderflower and orange bitters; the 339 Julip, made with American whiskey, mint, lemon, and yuzu; and the Ferrous Sour, created using house blended rye whiskey, red wine, yuzu, and palm sugar.
Of course, if you’re a fan of more old school creations our brilliant bar staff can whip them up too.
