National Tequila Day
Line up the salt, grab a lemon and celebrate National Tequila Day with the Primus Hotel Sydney.
It’s official – July 24 is National Tequila Day. Not this delicious beverage needs its own official day for us to partake in it, but it does make for a great opportunity to appreciate just how rich and varied the drink can be.
Most of us have at least one fond memory in our youth of an evening where a bottle of this infamous spirit has made its way on to the table. Cocktails such as margaritas, tequila sunrises and mojitos are some of the most popular ways to enjoy it, but in recent times, the drink has undergone a renaissance with distilleries releasing experimental editions and small-batch flavours.
A good tequila can be savoured for it’s rich flavours much like a whisky, with variants of terroir and vintage.
The Primus Hotel Sydney has a veritable library of tequilas to try this National Tequila Day.
If you’re keen to try one that uses authentic, traditional methods of production ask for Olmeca Altos Plata Tequila, which is is created using an ancient method involving the 'Tahona Stone' - a giant 2 ton volcanic rock used for squeezing the juice and fibres of the agave plant.
Or there’s the Avión Añejo, aged for two years in American oak casks and has hints of vanilla caramel, coconut. There sister spirit, Avión Silver was named the best tequila in the world!
But if it’s the ultimate tequila you’re after, then look no further than the Don Julio 1942. Made in the Añejo style, the 1942 is made from the finest piñas, double distilled and aged for 24-30 months in small oak barrels.
Don’t let National Tequila Day pass you by, and celebrate by giving this half a century old spirit a toast.
National Tequila Day will take place on July 24.
