Where to play Two-Up on Anzac Day

After a morning of solemnity, what better way to celebrate the memory of diggers with one of their own traditional entertainments?

April 25, Anzac Day, is traditionally a solemn event that remembers the sacrifices made by those who served our country, some to their last breath.

The beautiful Dawn Services held across the country start the day as a poignant ritual of new beginnings - whether it be at the the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park or at your local RSL.

But it’s also a day of joy because, even in those dark times, Australians being Australian making the best of a bad situation they managed to find a way to have a good time and a punt to boot.

Two-up has become synonymous with Anzac Day celebrations. While a lot of pubs and bars have stopped allowing the game to be played, there are plenty of places where you can still head to after the Dawn Service and enjoy yourself a friendly match. And potentially walk away two bobs richer.

Here are our three top suggestions:

The Potts Point Hotel, Darlinghurst

One of the most popular venues, this will no doubt be full of revellers young and old willing to take part in the game. Bonus, a free arrival drink as well as 20 per cent off meals will be available for servicemen and women who arrive in uniform.

Bungalow 8, King Street Wharf

A younger crowd mostly, this trendy bar will have an area set up for those ready to have a friendly punt. All set to the soundtrack of iconic Aussie tunes.

The Argyle, The Rocks

One of the more traditional locations to head to once the morning march wraps up, The Argyle will host a mixed crowd of civilians, locals, tourists and servicemen. Conveniently located right at the finishing point of the Anzac Parade.
