Pipilotti Rist: Sip My Ocean
A major new exhibition at The Museum of Contemporary Art exclusive to Sydney from Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist.
Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art is currently the site of what could be the most exciting art exhibition of the year.
Now showing until February, 2018, Sip My Ocean is a collection of immersive digital works spanning the 30 years of Rist’s career.
Sourced from the full spectrum of her groundbreaking practice, including her early single-channel videos of the 1980s to her large-scale audio-visual installations and recent immersive environments, Sip My Ocean is like stepping inside a multi-sensory dream made reality.
Part of the early “T.V. generation”, Rist regularly references the impact of video, television and shamelessly draws on this technology to create an eerily familiar yet alien art practice.
Occupying the entire third floor of the Museum, along with breakout works on the second and ground floors, and will be the most comprehensive exhibition of Rist’s work in Australia to date.
Sip My Ocean has been displayed as a sequence of viewing experiences. Once inside, take a seat, walk through a forest of hanging lights and a maze of floating fabric, or lie down on beds or rest on a wild cushion on the floor. From oversized furniture in an Alice in Wonderland room to large-scale projections and miniature monitors, and from projections on beds, from mirror balls, onto couches and cushions, this exhibition highlights the artistic and technical evolutions of Rist’s work and its euphoric engagement with the world we live in and the spaces we inhabit.
Price of entry into the exhibition starts at $22 for adults.
Pipilotti Rist: Sip My Ocean is now showing at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Circular Quay.
