David Jones Flower Show

It’s a riot of colour, fragrance and a dazzling display of nature – the annual David Jones Flower Show is now on!

By Benjamen Judd

Spring has sprung and with it one of the most stunning window displays of the year – the annual David Jones Flower Show.

Taking over the windows and ground floor of their iconic Elizabeth Street store (which, incidentally, was designed by the very same architect responsible for 339 Pitt Street, aka Primus Hotel Sydney's building, Henry Budden) the David Jones Flower Show celebrates the renewal of spring in the grandest of gestures.

More than 150,000 fresh flowers have been brought in, the culmination of 10,000 hours of work from 11 florists – a monumental task.

Guests can also receive guided tours of the display, learning what kind of flowers were used and the art behind it. Each window is also dedicated to a perfume, telling a story behind the delicate scents that will mark the season.

The tradition began from a simple gesture in the 1920s. David Jones store staff would bring in fresh flowers from their own gardens and placing them on counters to celebrate the Spring season.

The David Jones Flower Show is now showing until September 11.
