Collette Dinnigan - Unlaced

One of Australia’s most awarded designers Colette Dinnigan is being celebrated with a world-first exhibition of her work at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences

By Benjamen Judd

Exclusive to the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences (MAAS), Collette Dinnigan - Unlaced is the first exhibition to explore the work of this internationally acclaimed Australian fashion designer.

This exclusive exhibition will feature ensembles, accessories and archival material from both the Museum's collection and Dinnigan's personal archive and will highlight her signature lace and embellished designs in a series of striking themed sets.

Dinnigan’s career as a designer began during the grunge-fuelled and minimalist 90s, when she released a range of dry-clean only lingerie. This delicacy and emphasis on intimate details was to become a signature look for the designer, who went on to become famous for her use of lace in everything from bridal to ready-to-wear.

The exhibition has been brought to life by Anna Tregloan, an award-winning stage designer and artist herself, who constructed the scenes to bring into focus Dinnigan's unique creative perspective.

Each exhibit, or set, highlights the romantic, feminine designs that have seen her work sought after by a star-studded clientele including Taylor Swift, Dita Von Teese and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

Collette Dinnigan: Unlaced is now showing at the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Pyrmont.
