Bloodorange

A hidden haven for high-end womenswear, Bloodorange is a favourite for local fashionistas.

Shopping in Sydney is as much about finding that secret boutique as it is that perfect outfit. In fact, discovering new stores is probably more fun.

Tucked away in the lush leafy suburb of Elizabeth Bay, Bloodorange is the one of those stores that fashion insiders love and serial shoppers hunt for. It’s the Holy Grail for cult brands both local and Australian.

Opened in 2005 by Loren Abood, Bloodorange was a labour of love that was born from being exposed to fashion from her earliest days. And not just fashion, but a love for the work and detail that goes into a well-made garment.

“My grandmother & my mother owned & worked in womenswear boutiques in the '60's & 70's but I was mostly influenced by their skill as extremely talented dressmakers. My favourite place to be as a young girl was in our sewing room, sitting at Mum's feet flicking through her pattern books whilst she pedalled away on her machine. Surrounded by mountains of fabrics, spools of thread in every shade of every colour.”

Find hand-made jewellery from Australian label Petite Grand, luxe streetwear label Bassike, vegan bags from German label pb0110 and American label Raquel Allegra.

Expect to find structural garments that focus on tailored finishing and a minimalist aesthetic emphasising quality of craftsmanship.

If you’re on the lookout for something that embodies sophistication yet still possesses a sense of whimsical fun, then Bloodorange is the store for you.
