Starting out as a series of simple tees, Sydney-based label Bassike is a staple for anyone with a preference for understated cool
By Benjamen Judd
Since its launch in 2006, Sydney-based fashion label Bassike has become synonymous with clothing that focuses on understated elegance and simplicity while using only the best quality fabrics and construction methods.
Founders, designers Deborah Sams and Mary-Lou Ryan, built Bassike with the idea to provide clothing to people that focused on high-end design & construction with a commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
At the start, this was a basic stable of jersey garments that soon expanded to include denim (quickly developed in a signature drop crotch cut).
As their business and cult following has grown, so has Bassike’s seasonal offering: in addition to their core range of staples, the label has three new lines – Bassike Premium, a capsule collection of more luxurious items in leather and suede; a ready-to-wear line; and Bassike Resort, a range of high-end, avant garde garments that add to the simplicity of the core range with additional prints and experimental fabric.
Boxy silhouettes, exaggerated draping and oversized garments are updated in seasonal colour palettes, contrasting with finely tailored jackets and pants.
Today, Bassike is a go-to label favoured by fashionistas and trend leaders for its luxe minimalist and slightly androgynous style, offering a range of clothing that doesn’t sacrifice comfort for character, but combines the two.
